Berkhamsted has one of the strongest Victorian roofscapes in our area. The town grew hard along the canal and railway in the 19th century, and the streets running off the High Street are dense with Victorian terraces - Welsh slate, shallow front pitches, shared valleys between properties, and party walls carrying chimney stacks that serve two houses at once.
